Pro-Awami League-backed White panel’s AM Amin Uddin has been elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association in an election held on Wednesday and Thursday.

AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon from pro-BNP-Jamaat-backed Blue panel has been elected its general secretary.

Pro-AL-backed White panel bagged six out of 14 SCBA posts. The posts are of president, vice-president, joint secretary and three members.

eight posts. The posts are of general secretary, vice-president, joint secretary, treasurer and four members.

Chief election commissioner AY Moshiuzzaman announced the election result on Friday noon at the south hall of the SCBA. 

The two-day poll was held peacefully in a festive mood. Voters cast their votes through 44 polling booths. A total of 5,821 out of 7,825 voters exercised their franchise.

AM Amin Uddin from White panel was declared winner as president bagging  3,225 votes, while his rival AJ Mohammad Ali from Blue panel  managed to get 2,443 votes only.

AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon from Blue Panel was elected general secretary for seventh consecutive period bagging 3,056 votes, while White panel’s Abdun Noor Dulal got 2,649 votes only.

Abdul Baten from Blue panel and Md Jasim Uddin from White panel were elected vice-presidents bagging 2,856 and 2,849 votes respectively. The post of treasurer went to Blue Panel’s Imam Hossain who bagged 2,947 votes.

Qazi Shamsul Hasan Shuvo from White panel got 2,729 votes and Sharif U Ahammed from Blue panel got 2,722 votes to become assistant secretaries.

White panel’s Afifa Afroz Rani, Chanchal Kumar Biswas, Md Shamim Sardar and Blue panel’s Qazi Akhter Hossain, Rashida Alim Oishy, Mohammad Osman Chowdhury and Syeda Shahin Ara Laili were elected  members of the SC Bar Association.

A total of 33 candidates took part in the election against 14 posts.
