Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Thursday warned that he would take a tough line with the DNCC officials who are complicit in corruption.

“I have already forwarded messages to the officials of my city corporation about my stance on corruption. I have declared a policy of zero tolerance for corruption,” said the newly-elected mayor.

He came up with the statements at a daylong workshop on Towards Resilient Dhaka City jointly organised by the World Bank, JICA, Seeds and DNCC at a hotel in Gulshan of the capital.

Atiqul also said that the city corporation has embarked on various projects to ensure safety of city dwellers.

“The city corporation will do all possible things to protect its people from natural disaster, as our motto is to ensure welfare, dignity and safety of   the citizens as directed by Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

He said that he wants to rid the DNCC of all irregularities and request assistance from ordinary people in this regard.
