Women entrepreneurs in a summit in the city on Sunday underlined the need for full inclusion of womenfolk in the country’s fast pacing development growth for achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) five that relates to gender equality and women empowerment.

They said Bangladesh has made commendable success in achieving women empowerment in the last one decade but more government support is needed to establish a gender equal society as “no change” is possible excluding women.

Bangladesh Chapter of Entrepreneur Organization (EO) arranged the summit styled “She Rokers MyEO women summit” and “She Rockers MyEO Women SDG Award 2019” at a city hotel in Dhaka.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen inaugurated the summit as the chief guest while EO Global Chairperson Bubu Andres spoke as guest of honor and EO Bangladesh Chapter president Farzana Chowdhury gave the welcome speech.

The foreign minister said Bangladesh is becoming a role model of women empowerment in the world under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as women here are now in the leadership positions in every sphere of national and social life.

Describing various far-reaching and wide-ranging measures taken by the government to ensure the holistic empowerment of women, Dr Momen said Bangladesh government introduced gender budget that is unique in the world.

“Women’s empowerment is one of the 10 special initiatives of our honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the progress of which she oversees herself,” he said.

Momen said Bangladesh is globally committed to achieve gender equality and establish women empowerment in line with the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs).

In her address, Andres highly lauded the achievement of Bangladeshi women entrepreneurs and said the country’s women are largely helping Bangladesh to keep it on the right path of development.

“Women are leading the world side by side men and putting their mark of excellence everywhere. But barely we do know about their success and challenges throughout this journey,” she said.
