Bumper production of onion expected in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI: Farmers of Northern region including Nilphamari district are expecting bumper production of onion in this season due to the suitable soil, favourable weather conditions and timely supply of necessary agriculture inputs.

The DAE office, Nilphamari had been arranged more training and carried out campaigns for using organic fertiliser before cultivation. The farmers expressed their optimism about bumper production of onion cultivation.

“This year the onion cultivation achievement has been increase 108 hectors of land. Accorded the cultivation of robi crops is being increase every year, because the favorable weather is prevailing in the district”, said, Rupom Mohsin Reza, Assistant Agriculture Officer, Nilphamari.

“This year I have cultivated of onion on one acre of land spending Tk. 13,000. Now I am happy and expecting minimum Tk. 10,000 to 12,000 as profit from the land”, said a farmer Hasibul Islam, 35, son of late Rahim Uddin of Dhoba Danga Baniyapara village under Sadar upazila of the district.

On the other hand, a farmer Abul Kashem, 38, son of Gathiya Mamud of Chatnai village under Dimla upazila of the district said, “This season I have cultivate of onion on 2 acres, which costs Tk. 24,500. Now I am expecting minimum Tk. 20,000 to 23,000 as average profit from the crop”.

While contacted Abul Kashem Azad, Deputy Director (DD) of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Nilphamari told the correspondent, “The farmers of Domar, Dimla, Kishoreganj, Saidpur and Sadar upazila have been widely cultivate of onion in this robi season. This year the cultivation target was 1290 and achievement a total of 1391 hectors of lands till now.
