Robber, drug peddler killed in ‘gunfights’

COX’S BAZAR: A Rohingya robber and a drug peddler were killed in separate gunfights with law enforcers at Teknaf upazila in the district on early Friday.

The deceased were identified as robber Nurul Alam, 32, a resident of Rohingya Muchhni Camp under Teknaf upazila, and drug peddler Md Belal Hossain, 25, son of Sirajul Islam of Lakshmipur district.

Lieutenant Mirza Shahed Mahtab of the newly formed Rab-15, Cox’s Bazar said on receiving information of taking preparation for robbery by a gang of robbers, they conducted a drive in Damdamia area around 4:30 am.

Sensing presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on the Rab men prompting them to retaliate with bullet resulting in a gunfight, he said.

On the other hand, drug peddler Belal was also killed in another gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Sabrang Katabunia area under the same upazila.
