Nine people, who survived Chawkbazar fire in Old Dhaka and were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, are still not out of danger.

“None of them are out of danger,” said Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of the burn unit of the hospital, while talking to reporters about the nine who sustained burn injuries.

“We’ve nine [fire victims] at DMCH. None of them are out of danger. Five of the have already transferred to ICU. We’re considering moving the others the unit,” he said.

Samanta Lal said there are other severely ill patients in ICU. “We’ll be able to give priority to the injured of Old Dhaka inferno if we can shift other patients,” he said.

“The status of burnt victims remains unpredictable for the first 48 hours. Chemical burns aren’t superficial. These wounds are deep. All of these patients have burnt respiratory tracts,” he said.

Among those receiving treatment in ICU, Shohag,25, has suffered 60 percent burn in his body, the doctor said.

Rezaul, 21, has 51 percent burns, while Zakir, 35, has 35 percent, Mozaffar, 32, 30 percent wounds and Anwar,55, 28 percent wounds in their body, according to hospital sources.
