Jatiya Oikya Front expressed profound shock and voiced grave concern over the death of a huge number of people in a destructive fire in the city’s Chawkbazar neighbourhood.

In a written joint statement, Oikya Front convener Dr Kamal Hossain and its spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said “more than one hundred people died and more than one thousand people were injured” in the fire incident.

“The fire incident took place again due to the negligence of government agencies, absence of law enforcement and sale of chemical goods in violation of law,” they said.

The Oikya Front leaders demanded severe punishment for those responsible, including law enforcement agencies, and adequate compensation for the deceased and proper treatment for the injured.
