Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday conducted three separate drives at three districts and caught ten people for anti-environmental activities.
After getting allegations through ACC hotline 106, the commission conducted drive at Cumilla, Jhenaidah and Bogura and caught the ten people for damaging environment for doing illegal sand and land business by cutting rivers.A team of ACC deputy director Helal Uddin Sharif conducted a drive against illegal sand business on the bank of Gumti River in Debidar upazila in Cumilla.
The team detained five people and they were awarded different terms of imprisonment.
Another team of ACC conducted drive at Tribani and Dignagar unions of Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah and caught a people red-handed while withdrawing sand from the Kaliganga River.
The ACC conducted another drive led by its deputy director Moniruzzman at Shibganj upazila of Bogura in Nagar River and caught four managers of sand business institution on charges of selling the land of the river.
Later, Mobile court awarded six months jail to the four arrestees and fined them Tk 8 lakh.
ACC director general (admin) Muhammad Munir Chowdhury said the anti-corruption body will take legal action against the dishonest people those are amassing illegal wealth through destroying environment.
