Atiqul pledges to build modern Dhaka

Awami League nominated Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral candidate Atiqul Islam made election pledge to present a modern Dhaka to the city dwellers.

Atiqul Islam, former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters’ Association (BGMEA), made the pledge at a view-exchange programme held at Retired Armed Forces Officers’ Welfare Association (RAOWA) convention center in the city on Tuesday.   

Atiqul is vying for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral position in the election to be held on February 28.

The mayoral post has been lying vacant since the death of Mayor Anisul Huq on November 30, 2017.

The mayoral candidate sought cooperation from all concerned to build a beautiful and modern Dhaka city.

“We will work together to build a beautiful Dhaka. You will give me inspiration so that we can make a livable modern Dhaka,” he said.

The mayoral candidate promised to introduce an app titled ‘Nogor’ to receive any complaint from city dwellers, if he is elected.

He also pledged to form a special committee to curb corruption and develop an app through which people would be able to file their complaints against corruption.

“I will also address the problems regarding drainage system, mosquito menace, poor air quality, and enhance outdoor facilities for sports,” he said.

Atiqul also pledged to complete the pending development works which was initiated by the late DNCC Mayor Anisul Huq.

The mayoral candidate also promised to develop an app connected with Global Positioning System (GPS) to introduce a sophisticated traffic management system.

Special footpaths for disabled people, adequate footbridge, underpasses, separate lane for bicycles and motorcycles and multi-storey parking systems will be built in the city, he pledged.

He also pledged to solve the water-logging during the rainy season in the city .

President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin and President of BGMEA Siddiqur Rahman, also spoke on the occasion.
