MYMENSINGH: Resear-chers of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) found blast resistance line of wheat by radiation and hopeful to invent total blast resistant wheat variety soon.

Wheat blast is a fungal disease. Due to this disease, wheat grain dries in the early growing stage and grain doesn’t available in wheatear. The disease can’t be suppressed by any pesticide or medicine said Prof Dr Md Bahadur Meah of Plant Pathology Department of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in a press conference held at Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA). At present, wheat production is less than the demand of our country. On average, only 1 million tonnes of wheat is produced every year but the demand is around 6 million tonnes. About 5 million tonnes of wheat has to be imported from abroad every year, which costs about 1 billion US dollar per year.
