Productions in most of the industrial hubs in Chattogram, including Madarbari, Halishahar, Patenga and CEPZ areas, are hit hard due to severe gas crisis caused by a technical glitch in a distribution line.

Even production in many of the manufacturing units in Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) areas remained suspended on Sunday because of the stringent gas supply.

“I have been enjoying my leisure today as the production remain suspended at my packaging industry due to gas crisis,” said Md Sayem, an executive of the enterprise, while talking to the Daily Sun yesterday.

A distribution line of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd (KGDCL) broke down on Saturday night during a development work by the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA). The technical glitch took place allegedly because of the lack of coordination between the gas distribution company and the CDA, said sources concerned.

According to sources, the KGDCL didn’t inform the CDA about the location of the distribution line during the earth filling work that caused the disruption of distribution line. Petrobangla official, however, expected to resume the distribution line by Sunday night.

Due to gas supply disruption, many part of city has been experiencing a severe gas crisis, especially the industrial areas of Madarbari, Halishahar, Patenga and CEPZ areas. Most of the CNG stations of these areas also shut down their operations till filing the report.

Meanwhile, the Titas Gas Distribution Transmission and Company (TGT&DC) resumed its gas supply at 10:30AM on Sunday after completion the repair of Asuganj gas transmission pipeline.
