Yet another deadly accident

Three including a couple burnt to death inside a microbus in Ctg; two minor children sustain severe injuries

CHATTOGRAM: Three persons including a couple were burnt to death and their two minor grandchildren injured in a fatal road accident at Mirsarai upazila in the district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased couple was identified as Abdur Rahman, 65, his wife Kulsum Begum, 55, of Monoharganj upazila in Cumilla district, and driver Ruhul Amin, 30, of Chatkhil upazila in Noakhali district.

The injured grandchildren were Rony, 12, and Rasel, 10.

Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) department, Chattogram Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Jashim Uddin said the couple along with their grandchildren was coming to Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport from Cumilla to receive their Dubai expatriate son in the morning.

The microbus carrying them hit a Chattogram-bound covered van from behind and got locked with it on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Hadi Fakir Hat area under the upazila around 7:00am, he said.

At one stage, the microbus caught fire as the covered van dragged it till Nizampur College beside the highway, Jasim said.

The couple and the driver were burnt to death inside the microbus and the minor boys sustained severe burn injuries following the tragic accident. On receiving information, members of the fire service rushed to the spot and rescued the boys from the vehicle after breaking its glasses, he said.

The injured were rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to Cumilla by their relatives, said Mirsarai Fire Station Inspector Rabiul Azam.

Meanwhile, a teacher of Khulna BL College was killed when a truck ran him over on Khulna-Jashore road in front of Damodor Government Primary School in Phultala upazila in Khulna on Tuesday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Kishore Kumar Paul, 55, an assistant professor of Botany department of the college and resident of Gilatala village in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat.
