Awami League presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury has been appointed as the deputy leader of the 11th parliament for the third consecutive term.

President Abdul Hamid, who is now undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore, made the appointment through an e-filing on Monday, President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin, who is with the President in Singapore, told reporters.

Sajeda Chowdhury has been made the deputy leader of the House for the third term after being elected from Faridpur-2 constituency through December 30 polls.

She was first made the deputy leader of parliament in 2009 after the Awami League won a landslide victory in 2008 elections. She was again appointed in the same post after the Awami League’s victory in 2014 elections. Sajeda Chowdhury also served the Environment and Forest ministry as minister. The government awarded her Independence Day Award in 2010.
