Mahfuza Chowdhury Parvin, former principal of Eden Mohila College, was found dead at her residence in the city’s Elephant Road area on Sunday evening.

Police recovered the body from her 16/C apartment of Sukannya Tower at around 8:00pm.

Motlubar Rahman, inspector (investigation) of New Market Police Station, confirmed the matter.

Husband of the deceased Ismat Kadir Gama, a valiant freedom fighter, told journalists that he found her wife lying unconscious on the floor besides belongings scattered around.

Police suspect that Mahfuza, hailing from Gopalganj and aged 66, might have been strangulated to death.

Suspicion was surrounding three domestic helps of the house who went into hiding soon after the incident.

Law enforcers said they have already confirmed the identities of the house maids and trying to arrest them.

Police said Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Detective Branch (DB) are investigating the killing.

The body was yet to be sent to hospital morgue until filing of the report at 11.40pm.
