Padatik Nattya Sangsad (TSC), one of the popular theatre troupes in the country, will stage its   much-acclaimed production ‘Gohonjatra’ at Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) today at 7 pm.

The play has been penned down by Rubayet Ahmed and directed by Sudip Chakraborty, while the hour-long monologue is enacted by Shamsi Ara Syka.

Gohonjatra is a tale about violence, global political dynamics, danger of intolerance and the universal aspiration for peace and freedom.

Gohonjatra narrates the story of Salma who was imprisoned with another community member caught by an extremist terrorist group but somehow she flees away from the prison.

She returns to bury the dead and mourns the death of her partner who has been brutally killed by extremists. Meanwhile she feels the urgency to bury her partner Arian’s dead body but this time she is unable to save herself from the clutches of the oppressors. She was raped and then killed.

Before her death, Salma prays for the salvation of all, even for the damned souls of extremists who destroy peace and harmony of earth. Through her death she stands up for the supremacy of good on earth.

Sanjib Kumar Dey assisted in the direction of the play. Sayeem Rana composed music while Atiqul Islam Joy designed stage lighting along with Sudip Chakroborthy, the director of the production.

It may be mentioned that, Padatik Natya Sangsad is a Dhaka-based theatre group. This group was formed in 1978 to sustain the spirit of our liberation war.
