Former minister and Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed hoped that the party’s front organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) will win the upcoming poll to Dhaka University Central Student’s Union (DUCSU).

“I believe that BCL will lead DUCSU as they are now strongly united. BCL assumed this union office in 1968, 1969 and all critical times for the nation,” he said.

Tofail, also a former vice-president of DUCSU, made the comment while addressing a rally organised by BCL, marking its 71th founding anniversary on DU campus.

Applauding the contribution of BCL leaders and activists, he said: “The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman sowed the seeds of independence by founding this student wing (BCL) which played an important role in the liberation war in 1971.”

“Bangabandhu liberated the country which has already been in a good position in the world stage for its socio-economic development by the apt leadership of his daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added.

BCL General Secretary Golam Rabbani moderated the event with its president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon in the chair.

After discussion, a colourful procession was brought out by the BCL leaders and activists that paraded across various areas on the campus.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka University (DU) authority has prepared a draft of ‘code of conduct’ for the long-waited election of DU Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and its hall unit.

The draft is expected to be finalized this month at the varsity’s syndicate meeting.
