Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon on Tuesday said that the government has taken an initiative to build one more double-line railway bridge beside Bangabandhu Multi-Purpose Bridge aiming to expand the rail communications with northern part of the country.

Japan will fund the new railway bridge, he said.

The minister came up with the statements during a visit to Saidpur Railway Workshop in Nilphamari.

Sujon disclosed that one more railway workshop would be built at Saidpur with the assistance of India.

The factory will build new coaches that will decrease dependence on import.

He said that fresh manpower will be recruited for the railways, as about 10,000 workers were given golden handshake.

The railways minister also disclosed that the government is importing 250 rail coaches.

He vowed to develop the railways immensely in the next five years.

Earlier in the morning, officials and employees of the Saidpur Railway Workshop greeted him with flowers.

Nilphamari-4 constituency MP Ahsan Adelur Rahman, railways ministry’s secretary Mofazzel Hossain and Railway Bhaban additional director general Mohammad Shamsuzzaman were present, among others.
