CHATTOGRAM: Members of law enforcers in separate drives arrested four drug peddlers with 19,225 Yaba tablets from different areas of the city on Sunday night and early Monday.

The arrestees were identified as Md Mozammel, 30, Md Abdur Rahim 40, Md Nurul Islam, 28, and Md Idris, 22.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP-Media) Md Mashkur Rahman of the Rab-7, Chattogram said acting on a tip-off, they set up a check-post in front of a shop in the Nimtala Biswa Road area under Bandar Police Station.

Rab men signaled a Dhaka-bound truck for its suspicious movement at the check-post in the early morning, he said. At one stage, the drug peddlers tried to flee after parking the truck at the spot, the Rab officer said.

Later, the Rab men arrested the drug peddlers after a chase, he said adding that 18,225 Yaba tablets were also recovered searching the vehicle.

In the primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they used to buy drugs from Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar district and supply to different parts of the country, he said.

On the other hand, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested Idris with 1,000 white coloured Yaba tablets from the city’s Firingee Bazar area on Sunday night.

The Yaba tablets were kept in special chamber developed at the bottom of plastic bucket.

Assistant Commissioner (AC-South) Jahangir Alam of the DB said they usually recover Yaba tablets of red, pink and yellow colours.

But, the white coloured Yaba was recovered for the first time in Chattogram. The Yaba pills are larger than the regular ones, said the AC.

Separate cases were filed accusing the arrestees with the concerned police stations in these connections, said sources.
