Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday directed her council of ministers to work with honesty and utmost sincerity to fulfil expectations of the people by ensuring good governance.

“Any kind of your misdeeds and attitude of reluctance to discharge responsibilities won’t be tolerated. You’ve to carry out your duties in a transparent and honest way,” a junior minister quoted her as telling the cabinet members.

The prime minister addressed the maiden cabinet meeting of the newly formed Awami League government at the PMO.

Emerging from the meeting, the state minister told newsmen that the premier asked her cabinet colleagues to ensure good governance at any cost.

“There’s no way to compromise in ensuring good governance. If anybody faces any trouble in his work, you just inform me,” she said, adding that “all of you are under watch.”

After winning the landslide victory in the December 30 polls, Sheikh Hasina took oath January 7 as the prime minister for the third consecutive term and formed the government for the fourth time with 47-member cabinet.

The new cabinet comprises 24 ministers, 19 state ministers and three deputy ministers. All the cabinet members were present at the meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

At the beginning of the meeting, Sheikh Hasina said her government has a target to fulfill the expectations of the people.

“Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheiklh Mujibur Rahman had a desire to bring smile on the faces of the distressed people. We’ve also the same desire. We must fulfill the expectations of people by making the country free from hunger and poverty,” she said.

Pointing at her cabinet colleagues, Sheikh Hasina said they must have read the Unfinished Memoirs of Bangabandhu.

“My grandfather used to advise my father with two objectives—-sincerity of purpose and honesty of purpose—while carrying out any work. I think these two objectives are important. The cabinet will carry out responsibilities keeping the two objectives in mind,” she said.

“We’re here to perform that duty. The power of honesty is endless and we have been able to prove it time and again,” the premier added.

She also said the country will advance further if the cabinet works with sincerity and honesty. “We must foster the country’s journey towards development.”
