‘UGC will pursue zero-tolerance policy on graft’

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan on Sunday said the commission will show zero tolerance against all kinds of corruption.

“There is no alternative to ensuring good governance and eradicating corruptions,” he said while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of two-day long workshop on ‘Annual Performance Agreement Management System’ held at the UGC office in the capital.

UGC organised the workshop for making the activities of country’s universities as transparent, dynamic and vibrant.

UGC chairman said the objectives of the workshop are to make all concerned aware about the annual performance agreement and ensure good governance and excellence in performance of tertiary level institutions.

He urged all to work accordingly for the sake of country’s development. “We want to build result oriented educational institutions in Bangladesh,” he added.

UGC member Prof M Shah Nowaz Ali presided over the ceremony while education ministry’s Additional Secretary Md Belayet Hossain Talukder, UGC members Prof Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Prof Dil Afroza Begum, Prof Md Akhtar Hossain and secretary Dr Md Khaled also spoke, among others.

Senior officials from Ministry of Education, Ministry of Cultural Affairs and UGC were the resource persons at the workshop. Registrars, focal points of APA of 40 public universities of the country are participating in the workshop.
