Bashundhara Kings had an amazing start to their Bangladesh Premier Football League 2018-2019 stint as they won their debut encounter of the league by prevailing over Lt Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd by 1-0 goal at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital on Friday.
Bashundhara Kings prized recruit Marcos Vinicius scored the lone goal of the match to help Kings triumph.
Moments later, Bashundhara Kings World Cupper Daniel Colindres sprinted from the left wing and tried to brush the ball into the post but missed the post by some margin.
Bashundhara missed another opportunity to take the lead on the 19th minute as their local gem Alamgir Kabir Rana couldn’t take the possession of the ball. Jamal goalie Samiul Islam Masum and Rana rushed for a stationary ball at the edge of the D-box. As both the booters sprinted for the posession, the duo narrowly escaped head-on collision as Rana pulled out of the chase on the final moment.
Sheikh Jamal also produced a sensational attack on the 26th minute as their Argentine forward Emanuel Perez bulleted a beautiful shot from the right wing from a low pass from Solomon King.
Despite couple of mesmerising attacks from Bashundhara Kings on the final moments of the first-half Kings couldn’t turn chances into goals as the match remained goalless in the first-half.
Sheikh Jamal continued to press on in the second half too as their overseas recruit David Tetteh nearly broke through on the 63rd minute as he grounded Kings‘ goalie as both of them attempted to head. The goal-line mess that ensued was taken under control by Kings defenders.
Earlier in the opening match of the League, Dhaka Abahani Ltd narrowly escaped sharing points with newcomer NoFeL Sporting Club as the traditional sporting outfit edged past NoFeL by 2-1 goals at the same venue.
