Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir should resign for his party’s election results and failure to wage any movement.
“As a secretary general, he [Fakhrul] could not wage a movement for 10 minutes in the last 10 years. Even his party failed to get 10 parliamentary seats in the election. He should resign taking his responsibility for the failures if he has the minimum sense of shame,” he said.Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said this while addressing an extended meeting of Dhaka city south chapter of Juba League at AL headquarters on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
Dhaka city south chapter Juba League president Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Somrat presided over the meeting while Juba League chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury and its general secretary Harunur Rashid, among others, spoke on the occasion.
The minister came up with the remark as Mirza Fakhrul asked him (also the AL general secretary) to seek apology in public at a stadium for holding a farce election and committing vote rigging.
Quader said those who turned down people’s outstanding victory should seek apology to the nation.
Mentioning that BNP leader Fakhrul is now behaving like a ‘reckless driver’, Quader urged all to remain alert about him to avert any accident.
About the December 30 national election, Quader said the national election was transparent and excellent one.“Whether any agent of the BNP candidates and Jatiya Oikya Front raised any question about the transparency of the election on the voting day?” he posed a question.
“How Mirza Fakhrul won a seat in the election if there was any example of vote rigging? He [Fakhrul] will not resign as he has no sense of shame,” he added.
