Two suspected robbers were killed in a ‘shoot-out’ with police in Dehobhog area under Sadar upazila of Shariatpur early on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Russel and Jahangir.

Several robbery cases were filed against both of them with Shariatpur’s Naria Police Station and Palang Model Police Station, police said.

Police arrested the duo, who was on the run, in Dhaka on Sunday.

They were then taken to Shariatpur for interrogation. Later, police along with the two carried out a raid in Dehobhog Village.

Sensing presence of law enforcers, the accomplices of Russel and Jahangir ‘opened fire on the police team prompting them to retaliate, which triggered a gunfight’.

Jahangir and Russel ‘were caught in the line of fire, as they tried to escape’.

The two with gunshot wounds were taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

A firearm, nine bombs and several sharp weapons were ‘recovered from the scene’, police said.

Three policemen were also ‘hurt’ during the incident.
