Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Monday that the prime minister will invite political parties to exchange greetings — not for talks.

“She (Sheikh Hasina) will exchange greetings with 75 political parties which joined dialogue before the 11th national election. She won’t hold talks with them,” he said.

Quader came up with the message while addressing an extended meeting of AL Dhaka city south chapter at the party’s headquarters on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

The meeting was organised to make an AL grand rally a success at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on January 19.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said there is no necessity over an election as there is no crisis in the democratic world.

“So, holding talks is nothing but ridiculous,” the AL general secretary said.

He mentioned that a process has been running to separate the ruling party from the government.

Quader asked leaders and activists to reorganise the party by identifying problems.

Earlier, the minister directed authorities concerned to complete construction and repairing work of roads before rainy season.

“Construction and repairing work of roads to be completed before rainy season by maintaining its quality,” he said this before holding a meeting with heads of the various department under the ministry, project director of the ongoing projects and zonal head of roads and highway department (RHD) at the ministry.

The minister also directed the authorities concerned to continue to evict kitchen markets and makeshift shops beside main roads.

“Highways under the pourasavas will be freed from wastages,” he directed RHD.

Mentioning that bailey bridges in hilly areas have to be completed on time, Quader said hill tract areas should be built in a suitable manner for tourism.
