Supporters of deprived BNP aspirants continue demo

Supporters of some nomination-deprived BNP leaders continue their protests in front of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital for the second consecutive day on Sunday. — sun photo

The supporters of deprived BNP nomination aspirants continued their demonstrations for the third straight day Sunday in front of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital.

The supporters of nomination-deprived leaders gathered in front of the party office since morning and

chanted slogans demanding nominations for their dear leaders.

Supporters of Md Abdullah for Munshiganj-1 constituency and Manjurul Ahsan Munshi for Cumilla-4 staged demonstration on Sunday.

BNP vice-chairman Shah Moazzem Hossain and Jatiya Oikya Front’s component JSD (Rob) General Secretary Abdul Malek Ratan were given nominations for Munshiganj-1 and Cumilla-4 respectively.

No BNP leaders except the security members of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia remained inside the office till afternoon during the protest that continued till evening.

The protesters of both Abdullah and Monjurul Ahsan Munshi demonstrated against the party decision, tying white ribbons around their foreheads, and at one stage Munshi’s men attacked the office and tried to break an office gate.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir along with other leaders left Khaleda’s Gulshan office early Sunday escorted by Khaleda’s personal security, said the BNP chief office sources.

Before leaving the office, supporters of Narayanganj BNP leader Taimur Alom Khondoker demanded nomination for the aspirant in Narayanganj-1 constituency.

Earlier, some aggrieved supporters of nomination-deprived leaders at night also carried out attack on Mirza Fakhrul’s private car leaving the vehicle slightly damaged.

Activists and supporters of other deprived candidates including former state minister Ehsanul Haque Milon, Khandaker Abduul Hamid Dablu, Selimuzzaman Selim, Monjurul Ahsan and Fahim Chowdhury went on wild protests in front of Khaleda’s office on Saturday. Some of them carried out attack and ransacked the BNP chairperson’s office.

The aggrieved leaders and activists and supporters of nomination deprived leaders started their demonstration Friday evening, seeking nomination.

Meanwhile, BNP sources said the party acting Chairman Tarique Rahman who has been staying in London for a long time called some aggrieved nomination aspirants of the party and rebuked them for carrying out attack on the party office.
