RAJSHAHI: Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) penalised 43 shops over Taka 1.59 lakh in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions in November this year for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items, reports BSS.

Thirteen mobile courts of the BSTI Rajshahi regional office in association with local administration conducted drives in different parts of the two divisions and found the shops selling substandard food items, violating the rules and regulations.

The courts also realised Taka 1.59 lakh from the shop owners during the drives conducted in eight districts under the divisions.

BSTI Director (Rajshahi) Taher Jamil said the regional office conducted the drives against the shops involved in manufacturing substandard and adulterated food items.

The BSTI regional office also conducted 33 surveillance drives for prevention of pilferage in weight and measurement and formalin use in fruit and fish.
