The High Court (HC) on Sunday instructed the Election Commission (EC) to register Trinomul BNP led by Barrister Nazmul Huda as a political party.

The HC bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi passed the verdict after hearing a writ petition filed by Nazmul Huda, also a former minister.

He submitted the petition to the HC in August this year challenging a decision of the EC that rejected an application filed by Nazmul Huda seeking registration of his party.

On June 14, the EC rejected the application, as he did not submit the application and Chalan for the registration on time.

Following the writ petition, the HC on August 14 issued a rule asking the EC to explain why it should not be directed to register Trinomul BNP as a political party.

Nazmul Huda, the former BNP vice-chairman, announced the formation of the new political party, Trinomul BNP, on November 20, 2015, declaring himself as the convener of the party.

Earlier on November 21, 2012, BNP had expelled him from the party on charges of breaching organisational discipline.
