Bangladesh emerge unbeaten champions

Bangladesh Under-15 National Football Team clinched the title of the SAFF Under-15 Championship 2018 by demolishing Pakistan in the final by 3-2 goals in Kathmandu, Nepal on Saturday.

The young Red and Greens beat Pakistan 3-2 on penalties after the match ended in a 1-1 goal deadlock at the end of the regulation time.

In what was a master class of one-touch football by Bangladesh, the young guns of Bengal started the match adhering to their philosophy of aggressive football.

The spirited youngsters were rewarded by the football gods for their persistence as Bangladesh took the lead on the 25th minute when Pakistan skipper Haseeb Ahmed Khan headed the ball into his own net from a fair distance away trying to clear a dangerous corner kick.

Bangladesh went into the half-time with the lead of 1-0 goal.

After the break, Pakistan threw all they had at Bangladesh and won a penalty in the 54th minute.

Pakistan defender Mohib Ullah beat Bangladesh goalkeeper Mitul Marma by inches as he suffered from indecision whether to dive right or left.

The future football stars of the subcontinent played with all their heart for the rest of the regulation time but failed to find a winner in the stipulated time.

The match went to penalty tie-breaker directly and goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan, subbed-in before the end of regulation time. He once again emerged as Bangladesh’s saviour.

Mehedi saved three of Pakistan’s 5 penalties to hand Bangladesh the coveted trophy.

The U15 boys showed great determination, courage and self-belief to win back to back matches on penalties and win the SAFF trophy for their country after two years.

Bangladesh team will fly back to Dhaka as they are scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on 02:45pm.
