Man arrested for ‘killing’ wife in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Police arrested a youth for killing his wife severing head over family feud from the city’s Halishahar area on early Monday.

The arrestee was identified as Md Jahid Hossain Raju, 28, son of Harunur Rashid of Matiranga upazila in Khagrachhari district.

The victim was Sumi Islam, 20, daughter of Shahidul Islam of Khulna district headquarters.

Sources said Raju and Sumi got married around one and an-half years back and they had been living at a rented house in Chhotopole area under Halishahar police station.

The couple used to lock in altercation over alleged extramarital affair of the victim.  

Raju strangled Sumi with rope at one stage of altercation on Friday night.

Later, he brutally severed head of his wife with sharp weapon and dumped the head at a graveyard in Double-mooring area and the body under a culvert in the Chhotopole area.

Inspector (Investigation) SAM Badrul Kabir of the concerned Halishahar police station said on information, they arrested accused Raju from Halishahar area on early Monday.

The blood-stained knife used in the killing was recovered following his statement, the police officer said.

In the primary interrogation, Raju admitted that he killed Sumi for her extramarital relationship with other boys, he said adding that neighbours Abdul Jalil and Ferdousi helped Raju to hide the body.

Drives were going on to arrest the absconding Jalil and Ferdousi, Inspector Badrul added.
