BNP may place the party’s formula for election-time supportive government soon.

The party insiders said it is likely to disclose the formula for the poll-time government at a press conference, and then a team of the opposition party may meet the president and hand over the proposals to him as a guardian of the country to resolve the prevailing political stalemate over the next national

Holding a meeting recently, the party policymakers took a decision that a BNP team will meet the president and place a set of written proposals before him to participate in the 11th parliamentary polls, the sources added.

The proposals include release of BNP leaders and activists, including the party chief Khaleda Zia, from jail, dissolving parliament before the election, reconstitution of the current election commission, deployment of army with magistracy power during the polls and allowing the party to hold rally and meetings.

During the meeting, BNP may also hand over a proposal for election-time supportive government formula for holding the next general election, some BNP leaders said.

However, under the instruction of party Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, BNP senior leaders have taken decision that they will place the election-time formula after finalising their ‘greater unity’ with other political parties, including Jukto Front and Dr Kamal Hossain’s GanaForum, BNP sources said.

They have also taken decision to create pressure on the Awami League government to arrange the next parliamentary elections under an election-supportive government while the party will also manage the foreign powers to put pressure on the government to meet their demands, the sources added.

Asked about placing their poll-time supportive government formula, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told the daily sun on Monday that “it will be given on time.”

BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said, “The election-time supportive government has been kept in file after finalising it before BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment. But now there is no development in placing it.”

Khandaker Mosharraf at a human chain programme on Monday said the next parliamentary elections must be held under an election-time, non-party and neutral government.

Talking to the daily sun, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a BNP standing committee member, said an election-time cabinet might be formed in short format with non-partisan, experienced and responsible persons having strong personality.

Talking to the daily sun, a few BNP leaders said the party will send copy of the election-time supportive government formula to Jukto Front and Dr Kamal Hossain to take their opinions, and then the formula will be placed after discussing with them.

“The election-time interim government formula may be placed in October while leaders of the greater unity altogether led by BNP may place the formula,” a BNP top leader told the daily sun.

BNP top level sources said a team of the party comprising its senior leaders and election experts, made the poll-time government formula, and then they placed it to the party high command. Prior to landing in jail, Khaleda Zia also discussed the formula in a party standing committee meeting.

Some BNP insiders said the party policymakers have finalised the election-time government structure keeping two options while it can be formed either changing the current constitutional provision or keeping the constitution unchanged.

The first formula for formation of election-time government is forming the interim government comprising five members from current cabinet and five persons who are acceptable to all and the current Prime Minister will remain on leave during the election.

In another option, the head of the election-time government will be finalised on the basis of understanding through discussion between the political parties and members of the interim cabinet will be selected from different personalities those are experienced and non-partisan.

And the another option is formation of the poll-time government by curbing the power of the incumbent prime minister while an all-party interim government will be formed with members of registered and parliamentary representation political party.

“Everything will be finalised in the dialogue between the political parties, particularly between the two major political parties,” a BNP senior leader told the daily sun.

BNP sources said the party may place the election-time government formula before another session of the 10th parliament that will sit at a convenient time in October.
