Nine rescued after fishing boat sinks in Bay

Bangladesh Navy rescued nine fishermen after a fishing boat overturned in a head-on collision with a commercial ship on Monday at Mongla point in the Bay of Bengal.

The rescued fishermen were Md Hanif (40), Md Abul kalam (42), Md Zakir Hossain (47), Md Sujon (28), Md Rubel (28), Md Musa (22), Md Zakaria (16), Md Kabir (42) and Md Monir (20).

The fishing boat ‘Swadhin’ with 12 fishermen on board overturned while it was fishing in the deep sea near Patharghata, says a press release.

On receiving information, members of Bangladesh Navy rescued nine fishermen.  The Navy is continuing its salvage operation to rescue the rest till filing of this report.
