35 teachers to get UGC gold medals

Thirty five academics from different public and private universities will receive ‘UGC Gold Medal’ for their outstanding contribution to the fundamental research and publications on higher education.

President Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of all universities, will hand over the medals to the teachers on Tuesday at an award giving ceremony organised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) around 3:30pm at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.

UGC sources said 18 teachers will be given the award for the year 2016 while 17 teachers for 2017. Each of the selected teachers will get Tk 50, 000 for their books and Tk 30,000 for their articles as honorium along with the certificate and the gold medal.

UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan will preside over the ceremony while UGC member Prof Dil Afroza Begum will deliver the address of welcome.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division of education ministry Sohorab Hossain will be present as the special guests.

National Professors, VCs from public and private universities, UGC top officials, and noted educationists will also be present at the event.
