‘Improving mental health can prevent suicide’

State Minster for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder said on Monday that a struggling person can not kill himself as there is room for depression in human life.  

The state minister came up the remarks joining a “Run for Life” suicide preventive awareness programme at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla of Dhaka University.

The minister said, “Ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day we have to make promise that we won’t kill ourselves and we will think for society and country.

During the programme, the speakers underscored the putting importance on mental health to prevent suicide and observing the day nationally.

BTF, Bright Tomorrow Foundation and The Great Bangladesh Run jointly arranged the programme.

Former DU VC AAMS Arefin Siddique, popular singer Samina Chowdhury, the first Bangladeshi woman Mount Everest mountaineer Nishat Majumder, national cricket team player Taskin Ahmed and associate professor of national institute of mental health Dr Helal Uddin spoke on the occasion, among notables.  

Around 250 Runners from different age and profession participated in the 5 km run.

Winners of the run both in female and male category were awarded crest and certificates after the event.

Universal Medical College Hospital supported to hold the running event where Al Kaderia Limited was the hospitality partner of the event.
