KIEV: Ukraine’s Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman on Thursday held talks with an International Monetary Fund delegation in Kiev, hoping to secure fresh loans crucial to rescuing the crisis-hit nation’s economy, his office said.

The IMF in 2015 approved a $17.5-billion rescue package for Ukraine, in a bid to help it recover from two years of severe recession and allow the pro-Western country’s leadership to reduce its dependence on Russia, reports AFP.

In return for more help, the IMF says Ukraine must raise gas prices for consumers to market levels. While the two sides reached agreement on this in 2016, Kiev has yet to raise the rates.
