Primary schools to get music, sports teachers

The government will appoint music and sports teachers at the country’s primary schools for the first time to make classrooms more lively and amusing for the young students.

According to the Primary and Mass Education Ministry, a total of 5,106 music and sports teachers will be appointed for around 65,000 primary schools across the country under the Primary Education Development Project (PEDP).

The sports and music teachers will be appointed with a view to making the classroom more amusing for the students, said the ministry officials.

They said sport is helpful to improve the physical fitness of children while music plays an important role in the development of emotional health, and provides an outlet for creative expressions.

These teachers will be appointed under the PEDP-4 but they will be included in government payroll after the end of the project.

Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman at a function recently announced that the music and sports affairs teachers will be recruited for the primary schools aiming to make learning fun for the young students.

As per the minister’s announcement, the ministry will initially appoint 5,106 teachers for about 65,000 government primary schools across the country.

The teachers will teach the students under a roaster system and each teacher will cover over 10 schools. If necessary, they will provide training to one teacher in each school so that they can work as substitute teachers for music or sports.

Ministry sources also said the job circular for the recruitment of the teachers will be published within the next two months and the new teachers are expected to join in January next year.

The eligibility criteria for the new teaching roles is yet to finalized. But officials said to be recruited as music teachers, the female applicants must have passed HSC with a six-month or a one-year diploma courses from a music college. The male candidates will have to hold at least a graduate degree with a six-month or a one-year diploma courses from a music college.

For the position of sports teachers, the female applicants must have passed HSC with a six-month or a one-year diploma courses from a physical education college. The male candidates will have to hold at least a graduate degree with a six-month or one-year diploma courses from a physical education college.

These teachers will be appointed as Assistant Teacher under the 14th grade.

Primary and Mass Education Ministry Additional Secretary Gias Uddin Ahmed said “Humanity and moral values should be created among the children from their childhood. A good health and mind are very essential to get relief from the social degradation and abuse of drugs in the present society.”

“Considering this, we decided to appoint the sports and music teachers at the government primary schools,” he said.
