Awami League publicity and publication secretary Hasan Mahmud said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has gone mad, as he is making ‘inconsistent statements’ over August 21 grenade attack.

“Mirza Fakhrul is crazy, as he claimed that BNP’s exiled acting chief Tarique Rahman is a victim of government vengeance and law enforcers conducted drives for BNP leaders at Thakurgaon before four days of its rally in Dhaka.

“The claim would be logical if Mirza Fakhrul had said that law enforcers would have carried out raid in Dhaka but Fakhrul made a mistake,” he said.

He was addressing a discussion meeting at National Press Club organised by Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad on Monday.

Demanding capital punishment of those involved in the August 21 grenade attack, Hasan said Tarique was directly involved with the grenade attack on Awami League rally in 2004.

Even, Khaleda Zia cannot avoid responsibility, as she was the prime minister at that time, he said.

Hasan alleged that BNP is not in favour of holding the general elections in the country.

“They want to capitalise on a special situation. The beneficiaries also join them to take advantage of the situation,” he said.
