Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has condemned Myanmar military’s propaganda against Rohingyas and termed it ‘a heinous act’.

“Myanmar is committing a heinous act. They are tarnishing their image and diminishing position on the global stage,” she told reporters at a press briefing at her official residence Ganabhaban in the capital on Sunday.

The Myanmar military had distributed a book on ‘True News’ of the Rohingya crisis in July with three fake photographs, including War of Liberation in Bangladesh.

In a lighter vein, Sheikh Hasina said Myanmar may learn image plagiarism from BNP-Jamaat nexus.

“BNP-Jamaat carried out same type of propaganda in 2013, 2014 and 2015,” she said.

About Rohingya repatriation, Sheikh Hasina said Myanmar is delaying the process of Rohingya repatriation without any specific cause.

“Myanmar always says they are ready to repatriate and they never say no. But when it comes to taking actions, they remain aloof,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina said bilateral issues are not usually discussed at the event.

“However, I had a conversation with the President of Myanmar on the matter briefly,” she said, adding that the President made a similar assurance.

Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh has never wanted conflict with Myanmar.

“We have handed over a list of 3,000 Rohingyas and I had the opportunity to talk to the Myanmar representative about it. I was assured that Myanmar is ready to take them back.”

She said 11 lakh Rohingyas have taken shelter in Bangladesh.
