Six thieves arrested with 22 stolen mobile phones in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Police arrested six members including five female ones of an organised gang of thieves with 22 stolen mobile phones from different areas of city on Sunday night.  

The arrestees were identified as Ripa Akter, 15, Jannat Ara Ferdous, 14, Hamida Begum, 40, Fatema Begum, 26, Sahura Asias Kala Buri, 19, and Nur Hossain, 18. All of them are relatives and residents of Khetchar area under city’s Bakolia police station.

Officer in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mohsin of Kotwali police station said mobile phone of one Chitra Biswas was stolen from a programme at Sawaranika Community Centre in Love Lane area on July 6.

Following complaint from her, police raided the community centre on Sunday night and arrested three of the gang from there.

Acting on their statements, rest three were arrested from the Khetchar area, said the OC adding that a total of 22 stolen mobile phones were recovered from their possessions.

He said the girls in guise of members of rich family go to different programmes at community centres.

With tactful attitude they get mingled with people as guest and flee with valuables like mobile phone, gold necklace and bag from crowd, said OC Mohsin.
