Govt takes initiative to expand LPG uses

State minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid on Monday said the government expands LPG uses as an alternative of piped supply of natural gas.

“We are emphasizing to discover new gas and that is why the government will import LNG, drill 108 new wells and expansion of LPG as an alternative of piped supply natural gas,” Nasrul Hamid said as a chief guest at US company Chevron sponsored ‘Stake Holders Event’ at a local hotel.

Energy and mineral resources division secretary Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Momin, Petrobangla chairman Abul Mansur Md Faizullah, US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat, Chevron Bangladesh chapter outgoing president Kevin Lyon and newly appointed president Neil Menzies spoke at the programme.

State minister said the government has prioritized the power and energy sector to make developed Bangladesh.

He said a total of 90 percent people come under electricity coverage. “Around 5.2 million solar home systems so far installed through government special subsidy support,” Nasrul said.

The minister expressed his satisfaction for Chevron Bangladesh support through continuous natural gas productions from three major gas fields.
