Five lawyers of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday met her at the old central jail.

The team included her lawyers Abdur Rezak Khan, AJ Mohammad Ali, Khondaker Mahbub Hossain, Joynul Abedin, and Mahabubuddin Khokon.

They entered the jail at around 4:30pm and talked with Khaleda Zia about her next appeal hearing scheduled to be held on May 8, BNP sources said.

Emerging from the jail, talking to reporters Khondaker Mahbub Hossain hoped that Khaleda Zia will get bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case from the apex court.

A special judge court in Dhaka sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years’ imprisonment in the graft case on February 8. She landed in jail on the same day.

BNP sources said the party now cannot decide as to whether it will go for movement or start activities to join the 11th parliamentary polls as party leaders are worried about the fate of cases against Khaleda and Tarique.

Tarique Rahman has already been convicted in money laundering case. Trial procedures of other cases filed against him and his mother Khaleda Zia are also progressing rapidly.

In this situation, BNP’s rank and file are worried about their party’s future, next political strategy, future leadership and joining the next national polls, insiders said
