Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has been elected as the chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Council of Foreign Ministers (OIC-CFM) for next one year.

He was elected at the 45th session of OIC-CFM that began on Saturday at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka.

With the 45th CFM in Dhaka, its chairmanship has passed from Cote d’Ivoire to Bangladesh for the next one year until the holding of the next CFM.

Chairman of 44th CFM Cote D’Ivoir Foreign Affairs Minister Marcel Amon-Tanoh handed over the chairmanship to AH Mahmood Ali.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the two-day conference at BICC in the capital.

Over 550 representatives of the OIC and different international organisations, including around 40 ministers and state ministers are attending the event which will end today (Sunday).

This is the second time that Bangladesh is hosting a CFM after holding the first in 1983. The theme of the year’s CFM is ‘Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace, Solidarity and Development’.
