9 BNP-Jamaat leaders held in Gazipur

The members of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested nine leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its one of the top allies Jamaat-e-Islami from various parts of Gazipur early Saturday.

Dr Mazharul Alam, chief of the Media Cell formed centring the upcoming Gazipur City Corporation polls, confirmed the matter.   

Of the arrested men, five could be identified as Afjal Hossain, publicity secretary of Gazipur Metropolitan Unit of Jamaat, Akbar Hossain Faruque, organising secretary of Tongi Thana Unit of Juba Dal, Ashraf Hossain Tutul, convener of Gazipur Zia Parishad, BNP leader Abdus Sobhan and Sadar Thana Unit of Chhatra Dal leader Rezaul Karim Uzzal.

Officer-in-Charge of Gazipur DB police, Amir Hossain said the arrestees were wanted in various criminal cases.
