Giants Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club were given a rude shock in their 2018 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday, as they were humbled by Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity by six wickets at Sher-e Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Khelaghar took early control of the game by Jamal to 69 for six in 24 overs and dismissed them for 167 in 48 overs. Tanbir Hayder showed some resistance in the middle overs with a 65-ball 52 which proved too little too late.

In response, Khelaghar surpassed the target with 10 overs to spare, losing only four wickets. Al Menaria was unbeaten on 58. He was well supported by Rafsan Al Mahmud who added 49.

While Khelaghar bowlers stuck to their task, Jamal’s batsmen helped their cause as most of their batsmen played poor cricketing shots and could not hang on. The player of the match Tanvir Islam caused most of the damage in Jamal’s innings taking four wickets for 30 runs.

Anjum Ahmed took three wickets for 16 runs, Moinul Islam bagged two wickets for 32 runs and Masum Khan managed to get one wicket conceding 12 runs.

Meanwhile, Agrani Bank Cricket Club pulled off a comfortable three wicket win over Brothers Union at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

Being asked to bat first, opener Mizanur Rahman (102) and Junaid Siddiqe’s (92) 200-run opening stand took Brothers to 289/6 in 50 overs. Myshukur Rahman (37) also contributed to the total.

In reply, Agrani Bank got over the line with five balls to spare due to the contributions from Azmir Ahmed (65), Salman Hossain (63), Rishi Dhawan (70) and and Jahid Javed (55).

Agrani lost their opener Shahriar Nafees in the first ball during run chase but Azmir and Salman put Agrani on course with an 88-run stand.

Dhiman Ghosh failed to convert a good start but Rishi Dhawan and Jahid Javed ensured that Agrani Bank remain in the hunt as far as the run rate was concerned. The duo added a match-turning 107-run stand for the sixth wicket before both was dismissed in successive overs.

But Shamsul and Shafiul Islam did not face any obstacles to put on the remaining winning runs.

Pacer Shafiul Islam was adjudged the player of the match who claimed five wickets giving away just 33 runs for Agrani Bank.

On the other hand, a clinical all-round performance helped Legends of Rupganj to a 26-run win over Kalabagan Krira Chakra at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan Ground 3 in Savar. The win also pushed them to the second spot in the table.

After setting Kalabagan a target of 315 to win, Rupganj bowlers worked in unison to squeeze their opponents en route to limit Kalabagan within 288, with Parvez Rasul and Mehedi Hasan taking three wickets each.

Earlier, Rupganj posted an imposing total relying on Player of the Match Salauddin’s Pappu’s whirlwind knock of 125 from 95 balls. Skipper Naeem Islam also contributed 31 runs.

Papu’s innings was laced with 12 fours and eight colossal sixes.
