Test and T20I skipper of Bangladesh National Cricket Team Shakib Al Hasan will delay his return to national duty as he requires more time to recover from the injury he sustained during the tri-nation final against Sri Lanka on January 27.

Tamim Iqbal, the vice-captain of T20 team, will lead the Tigers in their first T20I of the two-match series against Sri Lanka in absence of Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib.

On Sunday, BCB physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said: “I cannot say with guarantee how many days will be required for Shakib to become fit. So, we are not confirming about his return to the series.”

He added that they opened the bandage of his hand on Saturday and found the injury marks.

BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said: “Now we can say that Shakib will not be able to play the first match on February 15. We hope to get him for the next match on February 18.”

Sri Lanka will end their Bangladesh tour with the second and final T20 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on

February 18.
