JP lawmaker sued for embezzling Basic Bank money

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday filed two cases against five people, including Jatiya Party (JP) lawmaker Mahjabeen Morshed and her husband Morshad Murad Ibrahim on charges of embezzling around Tk 275 crore of Basic Bank.

ACC assistant director Mohammad Sirajul Huq filed the two cases with Doublemooring police station in Chittagong over the loan scam, informed ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.

One of the two cases was filed against three people, including JP MP Mahjabeen, also the managing director (MD) of IG Navigation Limited, on charges of misappropriating Tk 141 crore from the state-owned bank.

The other accused are Kazi Fakhrul Islam, former MD of Basic Bank and Syed Mozaffar Hossain, director of IG Navigation Limited.

The second case was filed against JP central leader Morshad Murad Ibrahim, also MD of Crystal Steel and Ship Breaking Limited and former Basic Bank MD AKM Sajedur Rahman on charges of embezzling Tk 134 crore.
