Second phase of household census begins Jan 14

Second phase of household census will kick off in Dhaka and Chittagong divisions in mid January, aiming to collect socio-economic data of 1.60 crore households to help streamline safety-net schemes. 

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) will conduct the census from 14 January to 2 February in 25 districts, including Netrokona of Mymensingh division, under its National Household Database (NHD) project.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal made an announcement at a press conference on Wednesday. 

The NHD project was officially launched in 2013 and it will be completed by December, 2018 after collecting data from planned 3.60 crore households.

In the first phase, the census was conducted in 86 lakh households in 17 districts of Barisal, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions excluding Netrokona district. And data will be collected from all the 22 districts of Sylhet, Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.
