BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday alleged that 14 cases against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia have been transferred to a special court in a bid to ‘harass’ her.

Addressing a press conference at BNP Nayapaltan central office in the capital, he said the 14 ‘false’ cases have been transferred to the special court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge on ‘Alia Madrasa ground’ by issuing a circular by the law ministry on Monday.

“It is a manifestation of politics of vengeance and deep conspiracy to hold trial in camera. It’s another brutal step of the government to harass Khaleda Zia ahead of the next Jatiya Sangsad election,” the BNP leader said.

Rizvi, also in charge of BNP office secretary, alleged that people are beginning to ‘raise doubts’ whether any attempt would be made for political gain through the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election and whether the election would be fair at all. He said though the election schedule for DNCC has already been declared, no sign of holding fair election is prevailing in the election area. He demanded the election commission level a playing field for the fair election.

The BNP senior joint secretary general also alleged that the government didn’t provide enough warm clothes yet among the destitute all over the country.
