CHITTAGONG: A lawyer was strangled at a residence in the city’s Chawk Bazar area on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Omar Faruk Bappi, 40, son of Ali Ahmed of Bandarban district.
He had been practicing as lawyer at Chittagong court for long.
Sources said a woman took rent of the residence in front of Boro Miah Masjid at KB Aman Ali Road under Chawk Bazar Police Station on Thursday.
She informed the building owner that she would live at the residence with her husband and didn’t provide any document. Assistant Commissioner (AC-Kotwali Zone) Jahangir Alam of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) said lawyer Bappi entered the residence with some essential commodities on Friday night.
On Saturday morning, the security guard found the door of the residence open and the body was lying on floor, said the AC.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, he said.
Hands, legs and mouth of the deceased were found tied with tape, the AC said, adding that penis of the victim was also found severed from the body.
He might have been strangled, said Jahangir.
The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue.
Filing of a case in this connection with the concerned police station was under process, he added.
