A woman was killed and her two children were injured as a fire broke out at a house in Boitakhali area of central Badda in the capital early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Jesmin 40, while the injured are Sanjida, 9, and Amanullah alias Jishan, 12.
Farhad Hossain, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, said that the fire originated from electric short circuit at a furniture shop on the ground floor of the two-storied wooden building at Boitakhali around 4:00am. Soon, it engulfed the entire house, leaving three members of a family badly burnt.
The family members were leaving on the first floor of the wooden building.
On information, four fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire after one hour of frantic efforts. Later, the fire fighters whisked off Jesmin and her two kids to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared Jesmin dead around 7:30am.
Partha Shankar Paul, Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit residential Sergeon, said “Amanullah sustained 30 percent burn injuries while Sanjida sustained 28 percent burn injuries.”
Jesmin’s husband Abbas Ali stays abroad while she was living at the house with her two children, according to family sources.
