Imams, Muajjins to make people aware about tuberculosis

RANGPUR: Imams and Muajjins of mosques have pledged to create social awareness about tuberculosis for treatments of patients and eliminating the curable disease, reports BSS.
National Anti-Tuberculosis Association of Bangladesh (NATAB) organised the meeting for Imams and Muajjins at Rangpur Base Educare auditorium here on Wednesday to crate social awareness for preventing tuberculosis. With district Secretary of NATAB Hossain Abed Ali in the chair, Consultant of Tazhat Chest Disease Hospital in Rangpur Dr Md Mahmudul Hassan attended as the meeting as main resource person.
Medical Officer of Mahiganj Bangabandhu Hospital Dr Zannatul Alam Zisa, Vice-president of district unit of NATAB Abdur Rahman, its representative Kawser Uddin, Imams Moulana Bayezid Ahmed and Moulana Abdur Razzaque, also spoke.
Dr Mahmudul Hassan delivered PowerPoint presentation narrating reasons behind tuberculosis infection, its prevention and treatment process. Identifying illiteracy, social superstitions and lack of knowledge as main reasons behind tuberculosis infection, he discussed about prevention procedure and available cost-free treatment facilities in the country.
He narrated about symptoms of tuberculosis infection, multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, extremely drug resistant tuberculosis and functioning of GeneXpert machine at Tazhat Chest Disease Hospital in diagnosing drug-resistant tuberculosis.
Dr Zannatul Alam Zisa asked Imams and Muajjins for playimg roles in creating social awareness to inspire tuberculosis patents on quick cough test, preventive vaccines and full course intake of medicines without interruptions.
